Christian Bale confirmed to play Steve Jobs in upcoming biopic

Batman actor Christian Bale has been confirmed to play fiery Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic of the late mastermind’s life.

Jobs, who passed in 2011, has already been portrayed by Ashton Kutcher in a low-budget film about the former Apple CEO, and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has now let slip that Bale is set to revive the role in a new production based on Walter Isaacson’s official biography.

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Oscar-winning screenwriter Sorkin revealed that Bale didn’t even have to audition for the leading role.

“We needed the best actor on board in a certain age range, and that’s Chris Bale,” Sorkin said.

He added: “He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.”

Bale is renowned for his method acting, previously gaining critical acclaim for his performances in films such as The Fighter and American Hustle.

According to Sorkin, Bale’s role as Jobs will see him take on a substantial task.

“He has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined,” the screenwriter said. “There isn’t a scene or a frame that he’s not in. So it’s an extremely difficult part and he is gonna crush it.”

Last week Bale was tipped for the role as rumours circulated that Slumdog Millionaire creator Danny Boyle would take on director’s duties.

It’s currently unclear when the Jobs biopic is scheduled for release.
