Celebrity earnings for sponsored social media posts will probably depress you

If you have 3-7 million followers on Instagram you can make an astonishing $75,000 per single sponsored post, reports on Tuesday have revealed.

The New York Times has lifted the lid on the #ad industry, which sees web celebrities earn astonishing sums from endorsements.

According to Captiv8, an agency that acts as a middleman between brands and ‘influencers’, the average fees per ad equate to more than most folks see in a year.

According to the firm, those with up to 7 million followers can make $187,00 for a YouTube post, $75,000 for Instagram and Snapchat and $30,000 for a single tweet.

If you only have 50,000 to 500,000 followers on these platforms you can expect to pull in an average of $2,500, $1,000 and $400 respectively. Still nothing to be sniffed at.

Of course these figures are only for the mere mortal web celebrities. For the likes of the Kardashians (Kim has 81 million followers) the rates are exponentially higher.

The recent sponsored post for hair vitamins (above) pulled in over 12 million views and, in an era where so many web users deploy ad blockers, celebrities social media feeds are a sure fire way to ensure campaigns are going straight to the eyes of intended audiences.

The report centres on how the FTC in the United States is displaying greater vigilance to ensure the endorsements are clearly labeled as such, rather than simply posing as user testimonials.

Either way, the celebs in question are getting super rich for, in a lot of cases, not doing all that much.
