Multi-processor gaming gets a welcome lift.
Another month, another Catalyst driver and this time dual core owners are the ones who will be smiling widest.
To repeat the company line: “Catalyst 5.12 improves a variety of CPU-bound performance cases when an ATI product is installed in conjunction with a dual-core or hyperthreading CPU.” So how are the figures behind the spiel?
Pretty good as a matter of fact. Far Cry is the big winner this time around, with ATI claiming gamers will see performance gains of as much as 25 per cent, Comanche 4 is right behind that with a potential boost of 20 per cent, Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness and Unreal Tournament 2004 increase 10 per cent and rounding off the headlining pack are Half Life 2 and Splinter Cell with improvements of anywhere up to eight per cent.
Benchmarking gets a lift too as Aquamark 3 scores should increase by roughly 16 per cent, and the trio of 3DMarks – 2001SE, 2003 and 2005 – jump by 10, 3.3 and 5.7 per cent respectively.
All of which indicates this is another worthy chunk of your bandwidth. The edition with CCC for Windows XP weighs in at 35MB, but you’ll lop a big chunk off that if you opt for the traditional control panel. OK, that’s more than enough numbers, I studied English not Maths and my head is going to explode. Download it here.
