Canon Launches IXUS 230 HS And IXUS 1100 HS

Canon has just announced a pair of new cameras in its IXUS range,
the colourful IXUS 230 HS and the sleek IXUS 1100 HS.

First up is the IXUS 230 HS, which is the follow up to the
ISUX 220 HS we looked at earlier this year. There has been quite a few
improvements including a jump from 5x optical zoom to 8x.

However the extra zoom comes at the expense of wide-angle
capability, though the IXUS 230 HS’s lens still starts at a decent 28mm equivalent.
Canon has also included a larger 3.0in LCD screen on the rear

Behind the lens remains the 12.1 back-illuminated CMOS
sensor which we saw in the previous model. The Canon IXUS 230 HS will also be able
to shoot 1080p Full HD video at 24fps.

The IXUS will be available in six “vibrant colours” when it
hits the stores this October and will come with a RRP of £229.

Next up is the super sleek 12x optical zoom IXUS 1100 HS
which Canon claims is the slimmest 12x optical zoom compact camera in the
world. At just 21.9mm the new model is certainly one of the slimmest we’ve
seen.

It incorporates much of the same internals as the IXUS 230
HS but features a larger 3.2in LCD screen with a number of nice features
including a touch shutter.

Despite its sleek lines, the IXUS 1100 manages to squeeze in
a 28-336mm equivalent lens which, like the lens on the 230 HS, features Canon’s
latest image stabilisation technology, which identifies what sort of
stabilisation needs to be applied to the scene: either normal, macro, shooting
while walking, using a tripod, panning or shooting with telephoto zoom.

The camera will let you shoot in 16:9, 3:2 and 1:1 image
ratios and there are the usual array of effects such as Toy Camera and
Miniature.

The IXUS 1100 will be available in October for £369.
