Canon Introduces New IXUS Compacts

Canon announced the IXUS 500 HS at CES last month, billing it as “the world’s thinnest 12x zoom camera,” yet less than a month later is has unveiled two more models in its style-driven IXUS range.

One of the main features of the new cameras is the wireless capabilities letting you share photos and movies instantly to the likes of YouTube and Facebook. The new CameraWindow application allows photos and movies to be wirelessly transferred directly to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – a feature which will be a big draw for many iDevice users, considering how difficult it is to normally get photos onto your phone or tablet without using iTunes.

Looking at the cameras themselves, the IXUS 510 HS, features a 28mm wide-angle 12x optical zoom and is only a shade thicker than the IXUS 500 at 19.8mm, compared to 19.3mm. It will feature a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and a 3.2in PureColor II Touch LCD display with 460k dot resolution with Touch Shutter which aims to give more control over shooting. The IXUS 510 HS will record Full HD movies at 24fps.

The IXUS 240 has most of the same capabilities but features a 16.1 megapixel senor combined with a 24mm wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens. It will also feature the 3.2in touchscreen, full HD recording and range of shooting modes including high-speed shooting.
