Canon EOS 100D launched as 18MP DSLR

Canon has today announced the Canon EOS 100D, an 18-megapixel offering that is the smallest and lightest APS-C DSLR ever made.

A headline-grabbing model that measures in at just 116.8 x 90.7 x 69.4mm, and weighs just 407g, the newly launched Canon EOS 100D maintains a range of the features found throughout Canon’s DSLR range and that are absent in many CSCs, including an optical viewfinder with 95 per cent coverage.

Canon EOS 100D Specs
At the core of the Canon EOS 100D sits a new 18-megapixel APS-C Hybrid CMOS AF II sensor which, when combined with Canon’s DIGIC 5 processor, promises good results in a variety of shooting conditions.

The sensor itself utilises phase detection pixels across 80 per cent of its surface to provide increased AF speed and tracking performance in both live view capture and HD video recording. The HD video capture offered is of the 1080p, full HD variety, and at a frame rate of 30fps, 25fps or 24fps.

Despite its small size, the Canon EOS 100D features an ample 3-inch, 1040k dot LCD screen complete with capacitive touch technology.

As well as offering the full manual shooting control you’d expect from a DSLR, the Canon EOS 100D offers image capture for the photographic newcomer in the shape of a Scene Intelligent Auto mode, while a selection of Creative Filters also feature, alongside a built-in Feature Guide.

Canon EOS 100D Release Date and Price
Set to hit retailers in the coming weeks, a Canon EOS 100D UK release date has been set for late April, with a Canon EOS 100D price tag seeing the snapper handed a £579.99 SRP.

For those looking to pick up the new DSLR as part of an entry-level kit, the Canon EOS 100D will ship with the newly-announced EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM with an SRP of £709.99.
