Much has been made of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 waterproofing, but is it really up to scratch?
A tech vlogger has put Samsung’s new phone through its paces in the ultimate waterproofing test.
Max Lee put a brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 in an LG washing machine, and set it to a full 45-minute wash cycle.

As you can see in the video, the Galaxy S7 emerged from the washer unscathed, which speaks volumes for the phone’s impressive waterproof design.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is IP68 certified, which means it’s rated for 30 minutes of submersion at a water depth of 1.5 metres. However, that’s a maximum, so don’t intentionally dunk your phone, and certainly don’t put it in your washing machine.
Even better, Samsung has ensured that the insides of the phone are waterproofed, which means that all of the ports can remain open, rather than being covered by flaps as was the case with the Galaxy S5.

It’s worth noting that the phone did have a case on during the test, to protect the phone against impact damage.
“I used VRS Design Crystal Mixx case for this test,” says Lee. “Since we are only testing waterproofing, I needed something to protect against scratches when the phone banged the metal innards of the washer.”
Of course, the case shouldn’t affect the waterproofing test, as all the ports will still have been uncovered.
