Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the “biggest entertainment launch of 2015”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 made in excess of $550 million during its first three days of release, according to Activision.

It seems that the Call of Duty franchise is starting to recover from the sales slump it has suffered in recent years.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 managed to make over $550 within its first three days of release, Activision announced in a press release yesterday.

The figure includes units of the game sold, but it’s unknown whether it takes account of the PS4 console bundles or other such items.

Keep in mind that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 generated well over $500 in its first 24 hours of release, so Black Ops 3 isn’t performing at the franchise’s best.

Activision said that total worldwide sales of Black Ops 3 “rose significantly” when compared to Advanced Warfare and Ghosts.

Digital download sales also saw a 100% increase over the launch weekend when compared to last year’s Advanced Warfare.

The publisher announced that Black Ops 3 has set an all-time record for “player engagement”, with a total of 75 million hours played online this past weekend.

Comparatively, Halo 5: Guardians made more than $400 million during its first week of release, setting a new record for the popular Xbox franchise.

In our Black Ops 3 review we said: “When it’s good, Black Ops 3 is very, very good. When it’s not, it’s rather disappointing.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is now available for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
