BT 5G contracts are live: And they include unlimited data

BT has launched new 5G plans for its customers, including a super swish unlimited data package that’s sure to prove a hit with power users.

The company launched limited 5G plans for its Halo customers in November last year. The new launch opens the service up to all BT customers.

BT’s 5G service works in 50 UK cities and towns including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Hull, Sunderland, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry, Bristol and Wakefield and Wolverhampton.

Be warned though, 5G connectivity is still limited to specific areas, like Waterloo Station, within the active areas.

BT’s offering 5G contracts on a variety of different plans. The starting point gives you 6GB for £45 per month. You can then pick from a variety of packages that net non-Halo customers up to 100GB of data. Halo customers will be able to grab an exclusive “no limits” plan that offers unlimited data.

The company also has a fairly decent selection of handsets to choose from. On BT you’ll be able to pick between the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 10 5G and Huawei Mate 20 X 5G when upgrading.

The pricing puts BT in line with other 5G network carriers. Vodafone and EE offer similar packages at the moment.

5G is an awesome bit of next generation networking tech that offers users gigabit-per-second data connectivity.

The improved speeds let you do things like downloading entire TV series in minutes and stream triple-A games over the cloud using services like Google Stadia and GeForce Now.

BT Managing Director of Marketing, Consumer Pete Oliver, explained:

“Our BT Halo customers have been some of the first to enjoy 5G in the UK, and we’re now giving all of our customers the chance to get superfast, reliable mobile connections even in the busiest places.

“Whether you’re watching HD TV or sport on the go, or FaceTiming your family on the way home, 5G makes a huge difference to everyday experiences and opens up even more exciting new experiences like seamless augmented reality and HD mobile gaming.”

Sound good? Generally it is and we were super impressed when we tested 5G connectivity around London last year. But the super fast speeds are a two edged sword and mean you can easily eat through 6GB of data in as many minutes, if you’re not careful. We’d also suggest early 5G adopters opt for a package with more than 6GB of data, as a result.
