Brexit? Forget it! The EU is making Netflix access easier abroad

The European Union is making plans to enable streaming service subscribers to access their own libraries while roaming across the continent.

Under the proposals (via BBC) subscribers to the likes of Netflix and Amazon Instant Video would be able to access the content they’re used to at home.

Due to current licensing rules, Brits tuning into Netflix see more region-specific content when they log in while travelling.

It’s good news for fans of Spanish soap operas, but perhaps not for those who’d envisioned crushing a long-saved box set or two while chilling at the pool.

The tentative deal between member states is likely to be ratified on May 26 and if approved will become law next year.

Also in 2017, the new rules on mobile data roaming will come into effect, making it possible for smartphone users to consume their contracted allowances as they would at home without fear of holiday-ruining bills.

With Britain’s future in the European Union set to be decided by next month’s referendum, it remains unclear whether Brits will be able to enjoy these benefits come 2017.

Sorry, Boris but we’re Bremaining.
