The increasingly sensible multinational announces some sexy new LCD TVs.
When Sony launches a new line of products with the name BRAVIA you just know it has to stand for something “salesy”. Naturally enough it does: Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture (you can just see the marketing gurus salivating at that one, though anyone can do it – SALIVATING: Sensory And Live Integrated Visual Audio Technology Inspiring Next Generation, for example). Still, they’re bloody nice looking teles…
Using Sony’s seventh generation flat panels – which the company claims will increase viewing angles and boost response times – the BRAVIAs are divided into three categories: the W (below), V and S series.
All three are high definition ready and feature HDMI interfaces (excluding the 19in and 23in S series), PC inputs and sizes up to 40 inches. The W Series is the ruler of the pack as it also comes with a 2.1 100 watt audio system built into the frame and an integrated digital tuner with 30 Freeview TV and radio channels. The V series can stand toe to toe with the W series in all areas apart from its groundbreaking sound, with a more traditional Virtual Dolby Surround Pro Logic II setup instead.
The S series is the (relative) budget option by comparison since it abandons all attempts at built in sound and just offers up the screen instead (which may, ironically, please hardcore cinephiles better as many are determined to build their own sound centres).
All this top end display wizardry doesn’t come cheap with 19in screens starting from as high as £800 and the top end W Series creeping close to the three grand mark. They are out now though, and if you can afford it they do look BRILLIANT… that’s Big Resolution Invigorating Luminescence Livening Audio Naturally Technology.
