Borderlands Xbox One backwards compatibility is limited

Microsoft has confirmed that Borderlands Xbox One backwards compatibility is limited, with some features inaccessible.

The Xbox One version of Borderlands accessible via the upcoming backwards compatibility service doesn’t support certain Xbox One features, such as the ability to take screengrabs and capture gameplay footage.

Borderlands’ backwards compatibility support just became available to demo to Xbox One Preview Program members, but players have quickly reported that screenshot and gameplay capture functionality has been blocked.

Believing that this is a bug, players took to the Xbox forums to quiz Microsoft on the subject. And it’s not good news.

“This is expected. Unfortunately, recording/screenshots are turned off for Borderlands,” explained a Microsoft representative.

When pressed for more details, Microsoft said that this was down to a “licensing” issue.

Microsoft hasn’t offered any further details on this as yet, nor did it mention the limitations in its announcement for Borderlands’ addition earlier this week.

All other currently supported games for backwards compatibility support screengrabs and gameplay capture through the Xbox One’s Game DVR feature.

It’s a shame and an issue that could well come up again as more titles are added to the awesome Xbox One backwards compatibility service.

There will be more than 100 Xbox 360 titles supported on Xbox One through the service when it rolls out to all users in November.

The excellent thing about Xbox One backwards compatibility is that it works simply by sliding a supported Xbox 360 game’s disc into your Xbox One and booting it up. Or downloading it again (for free) from the Xbox store.

You then get access to your old Xbox 360 games on your new Microsoft console, with the added bonus of the new Xbox One features.

Sadly, it looks like that might be on a per title basis, if the Borderlands issues are anything to go by.
