Specs and pictures for a brand new BlackBerry with a traditional design, dubbed the BlackBerry Classic, have leaked.
BlackBerry caused quite a stir recently when it launched the BlackBerry Passport, a huge square phone that tried something completely different.
Of course, BlackBerry built its name on solid, compact QWERTY phones, which is precisely what the BlackBerry Classic was rumoured to be. That’s certainly how it appears to have worked out, according to this latest leak.
N4BB has come across the specs and photos of the BlackBerry Classic, which it reckons will be launched at the end of the year (so surely any time over the coming weeks).
The Classic sees the return of the clickable five-button belt to sit in between a compact 3.46-inch LCD display and a four-row QWERTY keyboard. The display appears to be a dead-square 720 x 720 number, like the BlackBerry Q10.
It’s 10.2mm thick and 72.4mm wide, so it can be wielded in just the one hand.
The Classic runs on a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 CPU, which is backed by 2GB of RAM. It’ll also feature 16GB of internal storage and a microSD slot.
Around back there’s an 8-megapixel camera with a five-element f/2.2 lens, as well as a flash and some kind of image and video stabilisation. Around front there’s a 2-megapixel camera.
There’ll be a 2515mAh battery powering it all, and there’s the usual comprehensive suite of connectivity options, including NFC.
All in all, the BlackBerry Classic should be more than enough for those keyboard-craving business users that modern touchscreen devices just can’t touch.
