Black Mirror Season 5 is coming to Netflix — here’s what you need to know
Black Mirror Season 5 is official and will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix. Here’s what you need to know about the season five episodes and release date.
Netflix scooped its first-ever Academy Award last night (Best Documentary, Icarus) and the firm is celebrating by confirming the return of a show that scooped two Emmy Awards (Outstanding Writing and Best Television Movie for the “San Junipero” episode) in 2017.
Yes, Black Mirror is returning for season five, as announced in a tweet on Monday informing viewers “Black Mirror will Be Right Back”.
The series, which forebodes the potentially dystopian outcomes of rampant tech advancement, has proved a big hit for Netflix since making the switch from its original home on Channel 4 in the UK.

Providing Black Mirror continues to deliver the goods for Netflix, and creator Charlie Brooker maintains the motivation, we can expect more series beyond the fifth. The streaming pioneer plans to spend $8 billion on original content this year alone so there’s obviously plenty of cash in the coffers.
As for the release date, there has been no announcement thus far. Series three launched in October 2016, while the fourth season began streaming just before the turn of the year. As a result, we can probably expect season five to launch towards the end of 2018 or in early 2019.
Regardless, we can probably expect Brooker to break new ground with the series, which has expanded in scope in recent years.
“You don’t want to hit the same bell again, even though it’s tempting. We have to be unpredictable with the show,” Brooker had previously said (via Hollywood Reporter)
