BioWare teases new IP announcement for GamesCom

BioWare will announce a brand new IP at GamesCom, if a new teaser trailer is to be believed.

A live action teaser trailer was released on a new YouTube channel called “You’ve Been Chosen”, showing a 40-second long live action video for an as yet unannounced game.

The video is entitled “Nightmare teaser” and shows a hoodie-wearing youth running scared down an alleyway full of abandoned bicycles.

The boy then tries to get in a car, where he  sees himself already sitting in the driver’s seat. There’s also a part where his face is replaced by a bright, shining ball of light and then he wakes up.

BioWare’s teaser video closes by asking “What really happens when we sleep?”. Gosh, we’re really intruiged.

Within the YouTube video caption and again on the new You’ve Been Chosen website, is the following, which confirms a GamesCom reveal:

“The time is near.
They are watching.
Your power is rising.
Cologne, Germany.
You’ve Been Chosen.”

BioWare confirmed it was working on a brand new IP during the EA Games presentation at E3 2014, but we’ve not heard anything else since June.

“While the Montreal studio is working on the next Mass Effect game, our team here in Edmonton is developing a completely new IP,” explained BioWare in the docu-trailer. “It’s the chance to have a clean sheet design, start from the most fundamental principles you could have. We want to take on very contemporary stories and yet we want to build a world that is as big and as imaginative as everything we’ve done before.”

“We’re trying to build a fictional world that feels real and is alive and is constantly changing.”

The thumbnail for the new Nightmare teaser video is labelled “ShadowRealms_Teaser_video”, which suggests the new IP will be called Shadow Realms.

That name is something that EA registered and trademarked back in March too.

We can’t wait to see what BioWare has in store for us at GamesCom in August.
