BioLite BaseLantern is a connected flatpack lantern

If you’re going camping, or are just sitting outside on a balmy summer evening, check out this ultra-portable light.

It’s called the BioLite BaseLantern, and it’s a flatpack light for chucking in your bag. It uses a rechargeable battery, so doesn’t need to be plugged in. And once charged, it can simultaneously juice up two other gadgets like smartphones, tablets and cameras. Which is invaluable for camping.

When folded down, it’s no bigger than a sandwich. So it shouldn’t take up much space in your bag.

The 7,800mAh battery has much more capacity than you’d find in most smartphones. It gives you 54 hours of lighting, though obviously that’ll be less if you’re using it to charge up other gadgets. There’s also a monster 12,000mAh model that promises to charge an iPhone 6 six times.

You can plug in satellite lights called BioLite SiteLights to the main light and then drape them off a tree branch to add extra mood lighting.

You control the light using an app on your smartphone. The app also gives you real-time analytics and feedback on the battery life so you can adjust your usage accordingly. That way, you won’t be left in the dark.

It’s shot past its funding goal and still has 28 days to go. If you want one, pledge $79 (£55) and you can nab one on an early bird. It’ll ship in October.
