Seriously? Parents naming their kids after Instagram filters is on the rise

Choosing a baby name is pretty tough; maybe that’s why parents are turning to alternative sources for inspiration.

More parents are naming their children after Instagram filters, a new report reveals.

Data released by parent information hub BabyCenter shows a stark rise in the number of babies whose names appear to be inspired by the photo-sharing social network.

Babies called ‘Lux’ are up 75% on last year, while the use of ‘Ludwig’ grew by 42%.

“Instagram, everyone’s favourite photo sharing app, seemed to inspire plenty of parents,” writes Carolyn Robertson, BabyCenter’s blogger.

Instagram was first launched in 2010, and has since grown to be one of the most popular social networks globally.

In September this year, Instagram hit 400 million monthly active users, finally overtaking Twitter – it’s still shy of the 1.5bn Facebook users, however.
