BenQ Makes Slimmest 3in Touchsreen Digicam

Brains, beauty and not an ounce of fat.

If you cast your minds back to October last year (a long time in technology, I know) you may recall the stunning BenQ X720 which at just 12.5mm thick ”still” holds the record for the world’s skinniest seven megapixel shooter. Well, guess who has done it again…?

This time the successfully diversifying Taiwanese giant (mobile phones apart *cough*) has come up with the T700: the world’s slimmest digicam to sport a 3in touch screen display.

With a depth of just 14.9mm this elegant 7MPer cuts as equally striking a figure as its older brother and with a choice of red, black, silver and white finishes and a 232k colour screen it looks just as good from the front or back.

A ‘Super Shake-Free Mode’ claims to be an anti-blur mode on steroids, while a 1200 ISO should be capable of lighting up dingy environments. Video is shot at the now customary 640 x 480 VGA resolution at 30fps but it has a trick up its sleeve with a remarkable 4000 ISO in movie mode which promises to deal with even the darkest scene (the mind boggles).

Elsewhere there’s a 3x optical zoom, 12MB of built in memory, an SDHC compatible memory card slot, PictBridge and it weighs a mere 120g (without battery). The T700 also ships with a touch pen for editing photos on the screen.

There’s no UK RRP yet but the Yanks can get it now for just $300. Expect that to translate to somewhere near the X720’s excellent £169.99 debut price and expect just as big a queue when the T700 eventually appears in shops.

Note, when queuing outside be careful not to slip in the rivers of drool…
