BBC: We are working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One

Having been omitted from the first round of Xbox One entertainment platform launches, the BBC has confirmed that it is working on bringing BBC iPlayer to the next-gen console.

Although Microsoft last week confirmed that the likes of 4oD and Demand 5 will be available on the Xbox One during the first wave of entertainment services, set to be introduced between the November 22 Xbox One release date and spring 2014, the much loved BBC iPlayer was omitted.

Now, however, the Beeb has responded to the resulting consumer outcry, reassuring fans of its on-demand, catch-up service that it is “working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One.”

“While we are working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One in the future, we have no further details to share at this time,” an official spokesperson for the broadcaster told Digital Spy.

They added: “BBC iPlayer is already available to audiences on over 1,000 devices and platforms in the UK.”

With the Xbox One now less than two weeks from hitting UK retailers, Microsoft last week announced that Netflix, LOVEFiLM and blinkbox would also be included in the 13 strong list of entertainment services confirmed for an early appearance on the Xbox 360 follow-on.

The gaming giant added: “This list is just the first wave of partners coming to Xbox One. We will continue to announce more partners coming to the platform and just like we did for Xbox 360, we will launch new entertainment apps every month.”
