BBC iPlayer Windows Phone App Not Coming, Says Beeb

There have been mixed reports on the existence of the Windows Phone BBC iPlayer app, but the latest from the beeb suggests there are no plans at present. It’s bad news for Lumia 800 lovers.

In the UK, the BBC iPlayer is TV streaming to many people. It’s available on a very wide array of platforms, including tablets, smartphones, TV portals and set top boxes. But, according to the BBC itself, it’s not coming to Windows Phones any time soon. Pocket-lint talked recently to a BBC representative, who said that the BBC “have no plans to launch a BBC iPlayer native app in Windows Phone Marketplace in the immediate future.”

This is bad news for Windows Phone, which is often criticised for offering a very limited app selection compared to its two main rivals, iOS and Android. However, it also conflicts with a statement made recently by a Nokia spokesperson, who claimed that the app is set to arrive within the next couple of weeks. Who is right? Who knows, but with such a clear clash it’ll hopefully be cleared up soon.

In other news of apps not coming to Windows Phone, the Sky Go app is reportedly a “good few months” away from release. When statements like these generally underplay the situation, it’s safe to say Nokia Lumia 800 users have a fair old wait on their hands.
