Battlefield 4 for mobile platforms with Frostbite Go engine

EA Games is developing the Frostbite 3 engine used by upcoming FPS Battlefield 4 for mobile platforms in the form of Frostbite Go.

Frostbite Go will be a version of EA Games’ next-generation engine for mobile platforms, which means mobile gamers could have access to Frostbite 3 games including the recently announced Battlefield 4.

“One of our most exciting current projects is called Frostbite Go, a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and feature to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms,” reads the Frostbite website.

Further information given within the new Frostbite website again mentions bringing the Frostbite engine to smartphones and tablets.

“Used exclusively by EA teams and studios, our workflows and runtimes are highly configurable and cover all aspects of development including Audio, Animation, Cinematics, Scripting, Artificial Intelligence, Physics, Destruction, Rendering, Visual Effects and more. Frostbite games are currently in development for current and future platforms including mobile devices.”

The new Frostbite website also provides further proof that a Mass Effect 4 title is in production and will use the next-generation Frostbite 3 engine.

“Our passion for creating great tools enables teams to build games of any size, genre, or platform; games that exceed expectation wherever our consumers are,” reads the Frostbite mission statement. “We provide workflows, pipelines and runtime solutions for our diverse stable of Frostbite games including shipped Frostbite titles like Battlefield and Need for Speed and upcoming Frostbite titles like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.”

Battlefield 4 will be the first game to ship on the Frostbite 3 engine, unveiled at a dedicated event in March. Launching with a 17 minute long gameplay trailer, Battlefield 4 will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime in autumn, with the game strongly tipped to make an appearance on the next-generation PS4 and Xbox 720 consoles due to their capabilities for high-end graphics.
