Warner Bros. has announced that Batman: Arkham Origins will be launching on October 25, introducing many more of the Batman franchise’s most important characters.
Batman: Arkham Origins will be developed by Warner Bros Montreal, rather than Rocksteady Studios who is responsible for the first two games of the series.
Eric Holmes, of Prototype and Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction fame, will be serving as the new instalment’s creative director.
As the title suggests, Batman: Arkham Origins will take players back to a time prior to the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, when a “young, unrefined” Batman comes across many of the series’ villains for the first time.
Warner Bros Montreal has said it is using Rocksteady’s custom modified Unreal engine to create the Gotham of Batman: Arkham Origins and has described it as a “functional city” rather than a “deserted wasteland”.
One of the villains to make his debut appearance in Batman: Arkham Origins is Deathstroke. Fans of the franchise will know Deathstroke is a one-eyed assassin and mercenary, whose real name is Slade Wilson.
Set to be released on October 25, Batman: Arkham Origins will launch on the Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
GameInformer has also tipped that the first Batman: Arkham handheld title will be released on the same day as Batman: Arkham Origins. Entitled Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS, the portable console game is a completely separate story to Batman: Arkham Origins. Its story will take place after the main console game, but still prior to any of the events of the previous two games in the series.
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is being developed by Armature Studio, responsible for the Metroid Prime trilogy, so it should be quite the title.
