Ballmer Tempts Microsoft/Yahoo ‘Partnership’

Just let it go Steve, let it go...

Here we go again…

In the latest potential resurrection to a deal we surely all wish would either just happen or be done with it, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has reignited more talk of a possible Yahoo deal.

In a statement which ventures into the realms of linguistic child’s play (admittedly not an overly common realm) the outspoken Ballmer stated this week: “I have said many times that we no longer are interested in acquiring Yahoo!, but we’d see the potential to create real value by partnering with Yahoo. I have said many times that when the time is right I’m sure we will have such discussions and I’ve said many times I’m not going to tell you when the time is right.”

Of course ‘when the time is right’ could equally mean ‘Yahoo! is no longer worth a pittance of the crazy $47.5bn we offered, so let’s snap it up for peanuts’.

Yes, such a view would be deeply cynical – and we still believe the purchase to be horribly ill advised – but that doesn’t mean it won’t go away (s)just I’ll refuse to write about it any more(/s)
