Aware: the custom-fit headphone with brain and biometric sensing

The Aware is a headphone that’s absolutely crammed with tech.

It’s custom-fitted to your ear, so should fit more snugly than any other. This custom fit also makes the biosensors more effective, letting them monitor your biometric data more accurately. Plus it can even monitor your brainwaves.

“What does it want with my brainwaves?” you might ask. Good question. By keeping tabs on these, it can see how well you’re focussing, how stressed or relaxed you are, and monitor your sleeping patterns. It can then provide feedback to help you become more self-aware.

Say you’re working. The Aware can monitor your brain’s beta waves and give you an audible notification when your focus drifts. It’s like it’s prodding you to focus on the task at hand. Which sounds useful, though we’re pretty sure a lot of problems are solved by day dreaming, and allowing you mind to wander wherever it likes. We’d have to try it for ourselves to see if it works.

Of course this being a wearable, it also counts your steps, heart rate, distance travelled and calories burned.

It’s certainly intriguing. It’s passed its funding goal and still has 10 days to go. Pledge $99 (£68) and a pair can be yours when it ships in September.
