AVerMedia has announced a portable tuner capable of receiving HDTV digital TV signals.
AVerMedia Technologies has launched what it claims is the highest quality TV Tuner on the market – the DVB-T USB 2.0. This is a portable external tuner capable of receiving the UK’s non-subscription ‘Freeview’ digital terrestrial signals.
AVerMedia also claims that the DVB-T USB 2.0 is the first on the market to support full 1080i resolution High Definition Television (HDTV). However, while Sky has announced that it is to begin 1080i HDTV broadcasts in 2006 there have been no announcements regarding HDTV availability via Freeview.
The device supports EGP data and is also fully compliant with Microsoft’s Windows Media Center 2005. The tuner is supplied with an aerial so users can get a decent picture whether on the move or in one fixed location. Other features include the ability to record and time-shift and can auto-power off a PC after a scheduled recording.
AverMedia state that thanks to its pocketabilty, the device is ideally suited for frequent travellers. Furthermore, housed in a sleek silver case, the box looks at home whether in the office or sat next to a home PC.
“We believe the DVB-T USB 2.0 is the most advanced TV Tuner on the market,” says Bentley Lo, Business Development Manager, AVerMedia Technologies inc. “The DVB-T USB 2.0 will set a standard for the next generation of Digital Terrestrial TV Boxes.”
