AVerMedia Brings Us DVB-H Before It’s Out

On your marks, Get set... it's already gone!

There is such a thing as being ‘quick off the mark’, then there is racing so far ahead of the mark a company needs to stop, turn around and holler: “Will you hurry the hell up, please?” Two new products unveiled by AVerMedia fit this description perfectly.

The E570 (above) and E569 are the technology marvels in question and the ‘mark’ is DVB-H, the mobile television broadcast service, which is still at a trial stage in Cambridge and Oxford.

Of course, it goes without saying then that both these models can receive DVB-H transmissions but while the former is a small dongle that plugs into mobile phones, PDAs and even notebooks, the latter comes in the more traditional form of a computer only PC Express Card.

Despite this both have the same briefs: small factors (the interface of the E569 measures just 34mm) and low power consumption. They support L and UHF band signals meaning users can watch digital TV in North America and Europe while the E569 also enables owners to run multiple multimedia programmes simultaneously.

Release dates and prices have yet to be announced for either product, which is probably just as well given that UK DVB-H testing don’t even finish until March, but it certainly shows the company is ready and raring to go. In fact, so fast has AVerMedia publicly promoted its DVB-H solutions that if it were a sprinter it would be Ben Johnson, steroid assisted, on a downhill slope, smeared in liquid mercury, being fired out of a canon…

…and that is ”pretty quick”.
