Asus Transformer AiO release date and price confirmed

Asus has officially confirmed the price range and release date for its Asus Transformer AiO, an All-In-One PC with behemoth 18.4-inch detachable tablet.

Due to be released sometime in the latter half of April in the UK, the Asus Transformer AiO is a hybrid Windows 8 and Android OS system, powered by a third generation Intel Core processor in the PC Station and a Tegra 3 processor in the tablet.

ASUS Transformer AiO Features

The Asus Transformer AiO is the first All-in-One PC to offer a detachable display to use as a tablet. The 18.4-inch tablet weighs in at 2.4kg on its own, so its hardly the portable, lightweight slate of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z or iPad 4.

The way Asus is marketing it though, the Asus Transformer AiO offers the best of both worlds. When docked, the device is a powerful PC offering Windows 8, an Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor and Nvidia GeFore GT 730M graphics card for desktop use. The PC Station also provides four USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port and a 3-in-1 memory card slot along with up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum 2TB SATA hard drive.

However, the king-size 18.4-inch detachable tablet runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, rather than the latest Android 4.2 OS in the Google Nexus 4. Whether the two OS systems can run comfortably alongside one another is something that will have to be seen when reviewed.

Display wise, the tablet offers the Full 1080p HD resolution with 10-point multi-touch and IPS technology to ensure the image is bright and vibrant. The screen can also be viewed from a 178-degree angle, making it useful for sharing.

In-built with a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, the tablet offers a 38W Lithium-Ion battery for 5 hours of use. The tablet lacks a rear facing camera, but provides a 1-megapixel front facing snapper for video calling. Only highlighting the weight of the mammoth slate, the Asus Transformer AiO tablet has a carrying handle and kick stand built into the 18mm thick body.

Featuring 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, the tablet also offers a microSD card slot, a mini-USB port and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

ASUS Transformer AiO Release Date and Price

The Asus Transformer AiO release date has been set for the latter half of April with several models available for purchase in the UK. The entry-level option offers an i3-3220 Intel Core processor, 4GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, for £999. For £1149, you could opt for 6GB of Ram, 1TB of storage and an i5 Intel Core processor. The top end model offers an i7 Intel Core processor with 8GB of RAM and a 2TB hardrive, for the price tag of £1299.

All three models will be available from Amazon, with other stockists to be announced soon.
