Asus touchscreen ‘Eee Top’ All-in-one PCs Official

Perfect Santa sack fillers?

It may be a case of after the lord mayor’s show given impending Asus touchscreen PCs were confirmed by the company in early October. More than three weeks later however we finally get our first official look and detailed specs…

Part desktop, part notebook the visually identical all-in-ones are dubbed the ‘ET1602’ and ‘ET1603’ and boast 15.6in touchscreen panels along with the netbook familiar specs of a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB DDR2 RAM and 1.3 megapixel webcam integrated into the bezel. Stepping away from SSD land, we get a more chunky 160GB 5,400rpm HDD plus Ethernet and wireless n. A pair of stereo speakers and USB ports are also fitted along with a multicard reader and audio inputs and outputs.

What divides the ET1602 and ET1603 actually couldn’t be more subtle with the former utilising integrated graphics and the latter opting for the more powerful discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450. When not in use a carry handle at their rears means each is easily transportable (note the story thumbnail).

In typical Asus-style we weren’t given any indication whatsoever as to when the ET1602 and ET1603 could be expected on our shop shelves or how much they’d lighten our wallets but – if the company’s past record is anything to go by – ‘very soon’ and ‘less than you’d expect’ seem fair assumptions…
