Asus/Google Nexus 7 Accessories Arrive, Keyboard Folio In Tow

There’s little doubt that the Google Nexus 7 by Asus was one of the tablet bargains of the decade. After all, a Tegra 3-based, premium 7-inch tab with 1GB of RAM and a high-DPI, HD Ready IPS screen for under £160 is a steal by any measure.

However, if you’re one of the many who’ve nabbed themselves one, you may have been wanting some accessories to go with it, and there’s been precious little in the way of first-party bits – till now.

Asus has just revealed a pretty impressive selection of official Nexus 7 accessories. Starting off with the simplest, there’s a screen protector for £15, which we think is rather steep and pretty much superfluous anyway, as the tablet’s front is toughened Gorilla glass.

We also get a faux-leather stand-case for around £23. In a touch of awesome, there’s a rotating version for £27, great when you want to use your Nexus 7 as an eReader or view other content in portrait mode.

The next step up is a leatherette folio case that comes in up to four different colours, which will set you back £40. But the pièce de résistance has to be the Bluetooth keyboard case, which will dig a slightly deeper hole in your wallet to the tune of £80.

It includes a kick-stand to prop the Jelly Bean tablet at a comfy angle for typing, and will apparently last up to 45hrs on a single charge from its universal microUSB port – in other words, it can be charged with the Nexus 7’s own adapter. It’s also splash-proof, great for when you spill your morning cuppa all over it.

While we can’t say it looks particularly comfortable, that’s kind of difficult to achieve with something this small. Still, the proof will be in the pudding, and we’ll be sure to let you know what kind of typing experience it provides in our full review.
