Asus Eee PC 1008HA Hits Pre-Order

Shockingly expensive.

Asus’ Eee PC 1008HA is doing a fantastic job of pushing the boundaries of what can be called a netbook. Having turned up for pre-order at Amazon and Laptops Direct nudging up against the £400 mark, it’s not exactly a cheap system which is rather against the original netbook ethos. But it does look pretty.

The S101 nearly justified its asking price at around £450 and if you ask me the 1008HA has the advantage on when it comes to styling. The 1.1kg, 1in thick system is available in Blue, Red and White – I think the latter is clearly the colour of choice.

Specs are admittedly less impressive, with an eminently unexciting 1.6GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 1,024 x 600 pixel 10in display. Windows XP and a 160GB hard drive, in addition to Bluetooth, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity will surprise no-one.

Nonetheless, if you’re looking to stick two fingers up to the recession, fancy a netbook and aesthetics are a consideration, this could be the netbook for you.
