Aston Martin is reproducing James Bond’s classic DB5 – and it’s only £2.75m!
Amid all the excitement about a potential new James Bond, the maker of the legendary spy’s favourite means of transportation is going old school. Aston Martin has announced it is making a limited number of Goldfinger edition DB5 sports cars, complete with 007-style gadgets like a functioning revolving licence plate.
If you’ve got a spare £2.75m knocking about, you can grab an authentic reproduction of the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which will have a top speed of 145mph and the ability to go from 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds, as well as 282 horsepower, a straight-six engine and a 3,995cc motor.
Aston Martin says it is working with the SFX department at EON Productions, the makers of the Bond series, in order to create the functioning gadgets. Oscar-winner Chris Corbould OBE, who was the special effects supervisor on eight previous James Bond films, is on board. Beyond the license plate, the additional gadgets are currently listed as “others”.

We’re not sure you’ll get the A/V tracking device that’ll allow “a man to stop off for a quick one en route”, or the smokescreen, or the oil slick, or the rear bulletproof screen. The left and right front wing machine guns, and the passenger ejector seat probably won’t make the final production vehicle either.
“The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car after so many years,” said Andy Palmer, President and Chief Executive Officer, Aston Martin.
“To own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars … is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy.”
The first deliveries will commence in 2020.
