Assassin’s Creed joins Xbox One backward compatibility club

Microsoft has announced the latest crop of Xbox 360 games to gain support for Xbox One backward compatibility.

The latest three releases includes an all-time classic in the shape of the original Assassin’s Creed, launched by Ubisoft in 2007.

Codemasters’ 2014 racing game Grid 2 and the lesser-known sci-fi shooter Dark Voice round up the new arrivals (via Polygon).

The releases follow the arrival of Alan Wake, Pac-Man and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night at the back end of last week.

All in all, it brings the total number games to 145 since the initiative launched as part of the big dashboard update in November 2015.

Additionally, EA recently announced it’s bringing older Xbox 360 games to the Xbox One via its own EA Access subscription service, starting with the original Plants vs Zombies.

The added-value proposition for Xbox One owners enables gamers to freely play their old 360 games through the new-gen console.

Popping the disc into the drive will enable a digital copy of the game to be downloaded to the Xbox One’s hard drive, although the game will need to remain in the drive during play.

Those who had previously obtained digital copies can re-download from the Games and Apps section of the Xbox One’s dashboard.

Microsoft is still asking gamers to submit their requests as the catalogue continues to grow at a rapid rate.
