Assassin’s Creed Unity runs at 30fps in 900p HD on both the Xbox One and PS4, Ubisoft has confirmed.
According to Unity’s Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand, both consoles will see the game run at 30fps in 900p HD.
In an interview with VideoGamer.com, Pontbriand said Ubisoft had “decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff.”
The game has the potential to run at 100fps “if it was just graphics”, he added, but as the game also has to manage the AI processes that create the crowds and their individual citizens, it isn’t possible.
“We were quickly bottlenecked by that and it was a bit frustrating, because we thought that this was going to be a tenfold improvement over everything AI-wise, and we realised it was going to be pretty hard. It’s not the number of polygons that affects the framerate.”
However, when Pontbriand released this statement, there was some qualms about whether the Xbox One was holding back the game’s true potential.
AC Unity is the first in the series to be development solely for the Xbox One and PS4, but it is running at the same 900p HD resolution at 30fps framerate as its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. (Although the PS4 version did get a 1080p full HD update.)
Following Pontbriand’s comments, Ubisoft released a statement clarified that the specs haven’t been lowered to compensate for one console or the other.
“We understand how senior producer Vincent Pontbriand’s quotes have been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for Assassin’s Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other.”
