Assassin’s Creed 4 tops Battlefield 4 for gaming chart success

In the first week of big pre-Christmas releases, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has topped the UK All Format Gaming Chart ahead of fellow new entry, EA’s Battlefield 4.

Although both titles have stormed to the leading positions of the sales-based gaming chart, each looks to have been affected by their imminent arrivals on next-gen hardware, with sales of both new games considerable lower than their direct predecessors.

With just weeks to go until the Xbox One and PS4 hit UK retailers, both Assassin’s Creed 4 and Battlefield 4 will be launch titles for the next-gen consoles.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag achieved its chart topping success thanks in part to its earlier release. Whereas the Battlefield 4 release date was held on Friday November 1, one day before the weekly sales chart cut off, the latest Assassin’s Creed offering launched three days earlier on October 29.

FIFA 14 has held on to third position, having achieved a 5 per cent rise in week-on-week sales, with last week’s second placed title, GTA 5, dropping two spots to round out the week ending November 2 in fourth position.

Following a 56 per cent decline in week-on-week sales, last week’s chart topper, the Warner Bros published Batman: Arkham Origins, has slumped to fifth position ahead of further new entries, Football Manager 2014 and WWE 2K14 in positions six and seven respectively.

The remainder of the chart’s top ten positions is a familiar sight. With Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition have dropped one spot to eighth, Skylanders Swap Force and Pokemon Y round out the lead positions in ninths and tenth respectively.
