New Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag screenshots reveal the game will feature shark attacks and whale hunting in exotic locations.
Ubisoft has released a batch of new Assassin’s Creed 4 screenshots that showcase not only the game’s tropical Caribbean locations but also further aspects of the naval gameplay including its wildlife.
From the newly released screenshots it seems like Assassin’s Creed 4 will continue the animal hunting feature introduced by Assassin’s Creed 3. Edward Kenway is shown fighting off a shark with a harpoon, while avoiding another of the finned beasts whilst diving underwater.
Released in honour of the San Diego Comic Con, the latest bundle of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag screenshots further showcase the game’s naval battles.
Players will be able to steer the ship even during battles in order to dodge incoming enemy fire, while simultaneously ordering the crew about to fire their cannons and guns.
They will have the option to complete sink the enemy ships or debilitate that vessel by destroying its masts before boarding them and plundering its treasures.
Fire barrels are also revealed in the latest screenshots, which can be used like mines left for player’s enemies to plough into on the open sea. Of course, it wouldn’t be fair if opponents didn’t have access to the same weaponry, so players can expect to be dodging these firey sea mines themselves too.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will have at least five different ship classes to encounter. These range from the small gunboats, to schooner, brig and frigate, right up to the huge Man of War vessels.
Kenway’s ship, The Jackdaw, is between a frigate and a brig in size, but can pack just as much weaponry as a Man of War.
Players will have to update The Jackdaw over time with their accumulated treasure and money stash, meaning the ship will be a little on the basic side to begin with.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will launch for Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 1 in the UK. A PC version will ship a few weeks later. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will also be an Xbox One and PS4 launch title.
