Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag gameplay trailer released with 13 minutes of footage

Ubisoft has released a brand new and extended Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag gameplay trailer, complete with over 13-minutes of gameplay action.

Providing commentary for the over 13-minute long Assassin’s Creed 4 gameplay trailer is game director Ashraf Ismail, revealing further details about the game’s many new features.

The various stealth-action techniques, naval combat and treasure hunting mechanics, including discovered uncharted land called playas, are all shown off in the new gameplay trailer.

Briefly showcasing the expansive maps, Ismail explains that the Assassin’s Creed 4 world is “massive”. “There is lots to find and do in this Caribbean sea.”

Boarding enemy ships is a very important part of Assassin’s Creed 4, not only because it’s the swashbuckling pirate way of life, but it is a great way of getting money, ammo, crew members and gold.

“With every boarding there are three options that you can do with that ship. You can gain crew members, you can send the ship to your fleet if you wish, or you can salvage a ship to repair the Jackdaw if you took too much damage in the fight.”

The Jackdaw, Edward Kenway’s ship, is described as “the second main character of the game”. It is able to be upgraded and customised throughout the game using player accumulated funds.

“The [Jackdaw is the] second main character of the game. You’re going to have to customise and upgrade this ship as you go on this journey with Edward,” explains Ismail. “There’s a lot of customisation and a lot of upgrading to do on the Jackdaw. You can upgrade all the weapons to fit the play style you wish.”
