Are Apple’s AirPods really more appealing than the Apple Watch?

More people plan to buy the wireless AirPods earphones than the Apple Watch Series 2, according to a new survey.

11 per cent of those quizzed by Bank of America said the W1 chip-enabled buds were on their shopping list.

While attracting a little more than 1-in-10 iPhone users doesn’t seem too impressive, it could lead to $3 billion in sales for Apple (via CNET).

56 per cent of those who said ‘no’ claimed their current headphones were up to scratch, while 40 per cent classed the AirPods as too expensive. 11 per cent worried about maintaining a connection.

When it comes to the Apple Watch, 8 per cent of respondents already owned an Apple Watch, while another 8 per cent planned to buy the new Apple Watch Series 2.

70 per cent of those were current-gen owners, so it appears there’s plenty of interest in upgrading from current users.

Apple has split opinion with the AirPods, verging away from both a physical connection and the traditional Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

The AirPods have earned praise for their fast and efficient pairing as well as their better-than-expected fit and battery life.

However, a consensus appears to be the sound quality doesn’t justify the £159 asking price.
