Archos G9 Tablets Get ICS Update Early 2012

Archos has confirmed that its two latest Android tablets will get the update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) early in 2012.

Although the Archos G9 101 and Archos G9 80 were the first tablets from the French manufacturer to use the tablet-specific Honeycomb version of Android, we always felt as if it was missing a trick by not having Android 4.0 from launch.

Well it seems as if Archos has been busy getting this sorted in this regard because both tablets will get the update in early 2012 according to a press release from the company. The press release mentions the “first trimester” of 2012 but nothing more concrete than that.

Archos also confirmed that the upgraded ‘Turbo’ models of the 10.1in and 8in G9 tablets will be available before Christmas with prices starting from €350 (£300). These tablets will come with dual-core ARM Cortex A9 1.5GHz processors compared to the 1GHz processor currently residing inside the G9 slates.

Will the added Ice Cream Sandwich and boosted processor tempt you to buy the G9 101 or the G9 80? Let us know in the comments.
