Apple Watch will ‘give you things you can’t live without’, says CEO

The Apple Watch has struggled to justify its cost for many users, but Apple’s CEO says that’s about to change.

Tim Cook has spoken out about how the Apple Watch will eventually become an essential device, just like the smartphone, during an interview on CNBC’s Mad Money.

Speaking on the show, Cook said:

“In a few years, we will look back and people will say, ‘How could I have ever thought about not wearing this watch?‘”

He continued: “Because it’s doing so much for you. And then it will all of a sudden be an overnight success.”

“We are going to give you things that you can’t live without. That you just don’t know you need today,” the Apple CEO added, as quoted by The Verge.

But despite Cook’s bold assertions, the Apple Watch has yet to convince Apple’s investors of its worth.

Apple hasn’t gone public about sales to date, instead hiding Apple Watch shipments amongst figures for accessory sales. As such, it’s hard to say exactly how successful the Apple Watch has been.

Unfortunately, that’s little comfort to Apple shareholders, as the company recently reported its first revenue decline in 13 years – a fall of 12.8%, which equates to $7.4 billion.

Critics have also been less than impressed by the Apple Watch. In our own review, we scored the Apple Watch 6/10, noting problems with unintuitive and buggy software, the drain on iPhone battery life, the poor quality of third-party apps, and some gimmicky features.

Apple is expected to announce a second-generation wearable – the Apple Watch 2 – later this year, either at June’s Worldwide Developer Conference, or at the September iPhone 7 launch event. However, Apple has not confirmed such plans, so take these rumours with due caution.
