Apple Watch already accounts for 75 per cent of smartwatch market

The Apple Watch racked up 3 out of every 4 smartwatch sales during its first three months of availability, a new report has claimed.

Strategy Analytics  (via VentureBeat) say Apple’s first wearable already accounts for 75.5 per cent of the market.

While Apple refused to offer a definitive sales number during its quarterly earnings report on Monday, the analysts offered an estimate of 4 million.

Samsung, which it places second with a 7.5m share of the market, only sold 400,000 smartwatches during the same period. So, for all of you non-mathematicians out there, that would equate to a sales ratio of around 10:1.

Strategy Analytics director Neil Mawson said: “Apple Watch launched in sixteen major countries and saw decent take-up from iPhone loyalists in the United States and elsewhere.

Apple Watch has clearly raised the bar for the global smartwatch industry. The ball is now in the court of rivals, like Samsung, to respond.”

Apple has only officially admitted that the Apple Watch outsold the iPad in their respective first 9 weeks on sale.

The company isn’t revealing concrete sales figures for ‘competitive reasons,’ but if it does turn out to have sold 4 million in the last three months, then that wouldn’t be a bad return at all, considering the early stock shortages.
