Apple has updated its MacBook Pro with Retina display range with the new Intel i7 processor and other hardware tweaks.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina models have been kitted out with the new Intel i7 processor, with the top model offering a 2.5GHz clock speed and the cheaper model a 2.2GHz option. These can be Turbo boosted to 3.7GHz and 3.4GHz respectively.
The top spec 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina model now comes with a 2.8GHz dual-core Intel i5 processor, with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz. The other two 13-inch models cme with a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, which can be boosted to 3.1GHz.
All 13-inch models come with 8GB of RAM and Intel Iris graphics, plus you’ll still get the 9 hours of battery life offered with the previous models. They range in PCIe-based Flash storage though, with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB as you rise up the ranks.
Going back to the 15-inch models, the top of the line option has 512GB of flash storage, compared to 256GB and has an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 memory as well as the standard Intel Iris Pro graphics.
Prices for the new MacBook Pro range start at £999 going all the way up to £1,999 for the top spec 15-inch model. They are all available to buy now from the Apple Store online with free delivery.
The MacBook Pro with Retina display upgrade wasn’t expected until later this year, potentially in line with an iPhone 6 launch in the autumn.
However, the specs bump was leaked by a report from China earlier this week, so perhaps Apple was forced to lift the lid on its new range a little earlier than expected.
We’re still waiting for the Cupertino company to launch a Retina version of the MacBook Air though.
