Apple tvOS update brings Podcasts to your living room TV

Apple has updated the tvOS software for the 2015 Apple TV set-top box, bringing its Podcasts app into play for the first time.

The tvOS 9.1.1 update, launched on Monday, will enable Apple TV users to listen to their favourite shows via their living room television set.

Happily, the app is nearly synced up with any existing iTunes subscriptions, so many users will see the feeds for their favourite shows, if using the same Apple ID. There’s also a list of categories and charts where tvOS users can find and listen podcasts.

The app can be downloaded from the Software Update section within the System Settings menu on the Apple TV.

The update also brings a few security and performance updates but nothing else in the way of new features.

However, more should be on the way soon. On Monday Apple also released the tvOS 9.2 beta which brought developers access to support for Bluetooth keyboards and iOS-like app folders.

Apple’s 4th generation set-top box arrived back in October, bringing a brand new operating system featuring the App Store.

The device features a Bluetooth-enabled Siri Remote with a gesture-based trackpad and a microphone, which allows users to perform universal content searches using voice commands.

It is also rumoured the firm is plotting a subscription-free Pay TV service, which would offer an alternative to cable or satellite television.
