Apple to ship 700 millionth iOS device next month

Apple has confirmed that the 700 millionth iOS device will be shipped next month as its iPhone and iPad product lines continue to dominate.
With the iOS 7 release date having been confirmed for next week, Apple has revealed that as new iPhones make it to market, the 700 millionth product powered by the iOS 7 operating system will be sold within a matter of weeks.
“Next month we’ll ship the 700 millionth iOS device,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the company’s Cupertino based iPhone launch event.
Despite Google having recently confirmed that it has shipped the billionth Android powered gadget, Apple’s latest milestone of 700 million iOS devices is pretty impressive given that its software is limited to its own hardware and is thus only on iPhone and iPad products.
Ahead of the September 18 iOS 7 release date Cook has claimed that the latest instalment to the popular OS will outstrip its rivals to become the most popular mobile operating system in all the land.
“iOS 7 will quickly become the world’s most popular operating system,” the Apple CEO said. “Virtually overnight, hundreds of millions of people [will] download iOS 7.”
