Apple Tells Vista Upgraders To Wait

Innocent advice or a corporate game plan?

Saying that Apple and Microsoft aren’t on the best of terms would be like saying art house cinema isn’t on the best terms with Hollywood, that Jennifer Aniston gets on with Angelina Jolie or Mark David Chapman has a ‘special love’ for John Lennon. So perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by this…

Apple is advising people wait to upgrade to Vista much to Microsoft’s annoyance. The reason: its iTunes software is not completely stable on the new OS and it describes problems from the failure to play music and video purchased from the iTunes store to poor animation performance, unreliable synchronisation and crashes.

A patch has been released from Apple which goes by the rather descriptive name “iTunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0” which you can get here but Apple is still recommending users wait until this fix is incorporated into the next official iTunes release. Helpful given how open the company usually is about its future plans!

Of course none of this could possibly have anything to do with the fact that Apple is currently running a global advertising initiative based on highlighting the stupidity of PCs in comparison to Macs. So obviously making sure one of the world’s most popular pieces of software has trouble working on a new rival OS couldn’t possibly have been deliberate.

Besides, Windows Vista has only been delayed two ”years” so it isn’t like Apple has had any time to prepare…
