Apple’s planed subscription television service won’t be announced at WWDC 2015 next week, reports have claimed. In fact, it may not launch until 2016.
Recode sources reiterate that Cupertino is yet to rubber stamp the licensing deals with networks that would be central to any streaming-based platform.
Despite speculation the web TV service could still be on the agenda for Apple’s developer conference, the report suggests it ‘may not launch until later this year’ and maybe not until next year.
Sources claim Apple had hoped to roll out its long rumoured platform in time for the new television season which kicks off around September in the United States.
However, the company was unable to pin down the deals with local affiliates, which reports have suggested would underpin Apple’s cord-cutting offering.

The news isn’t exactly surprising given Sony’s like-minded PlayStation Vue service is still only available in three cities in the United States. Sony is hoping to roll out the hassle-free offering in more territories sooner rather than later, but agreeing terms with the multitude of affiliates in each city appears to be proving problematic.
Apple’s annual WWDC conference will begin on June 8 with the company expected to announce the latest versions of its iOS and Mac OS X platforms.
Rumours have also suggested a next-gen Apple TV set-top box with an App Store and Siri integration is on the way.
