Apple Store Goes Down Ahead of iPad 3 Launch

The Apple Store website has gone down, in anticipation of tonight’s Apple launch event and the new products it’ll reveal. We expect to see a new tablet, called either the iPad 3 or iPad HD, and a new version of the Apple TV box.

Apple’s online store has been replaced with a holding page that reads “We’ll be back soon”. “Soon” will probably mean around half past six, by which time the new iPad will have been unveiled. This tends to happen before every big Apple product launch, as the Apple Store’s inventory is updated with any new goodies.
The invite for the San Francisco Apple event reads “We have something you really have to see. And touch,” and shows what appears to be an iPad. Yes, tonight we’re going to see a new iPad. We’re 99-and-a-half-percent sure of it.

Once the Apple Store comes back online, it will likely feature the full specs of the new iPad – and may let you pre-order the upcoming tablet. The latest rumour suggests you’ll be able to get hold of an iPad 3, or iPad HD, next Friday, 16 March. If true, any pre-order will have to be available fairly soon after the launch this evening. ipad 3 launch

The current iPad 2 will also probably get a significant price drop, either as part of the standard range or within the refurbished section of the Apple Store. Apple devices hold their value remarkably well, but you can get a good deal if you’re willing to buy a pristine refurb.

We’ll be back with all the news from tonight’s Apple event as it happens. Stay tuned for more.
