Apple plotting truly wireless Beats earphones for iPhone 7 launch?

Apple is working on a new set of Bluetooth headphones, according to reports, partially using the tech it acquired in the Beats Audio buyout in 2014.

9to5Mac sources say Apple is planning to launch the new accessory alongside the iPhone 7 as a separately sold alternative to the firm’s EarPods

According to report the new buds will be completely cable-less. So as well as featuring no wires between headphone jack and headphones, there’ll also be nothing linking the two buds. In effect they’ll look more like earplugs than EarPods.

The sources say Apple plans to include a button for answering iPhone calls, while building in a microphone to enable talkback and access to Siri.

In terms of charging the connected earphones, Apple is planning to include a carry case that’ll include a rechargeable battery.

Current iterations of Beats wireless headphones feature micro USB charging ports, but it’s very unlikely that will be the case this time around.

Apple is also planning to bundle in different sleeves to ensure the product fits the ears of a wider range of users.

The wireless option may have something to do with rumours that Apple plans to completely ditch the headphone jack from the next-gen iPhone in order to make the device ‘noticeably thinner.’

That’ll mean iPhone users will need to buy new wireless or Lightning cabled headphones in order to listen to their music.
