Some iPhone users taking the new Apple Pay mobile payments platform for a spin have been charged twice for the privilege.
The issue, affecting Bank of America customers in the United States, has seen some Apple Pay users hit with duplicate charges for the same purchases.
BofA is immediately refunding the double charges, which have been attributed to a processing mistake, but isn’t saying how many customers have been affected or which payment provider they were using.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and are correcting this issue immediately and all duplicates will be refunded,” Tara Burke, a spokeswoman for the bank told Bloomberg.
Another source claimed the teething problem, which CNN showed in this video, will be resolved today.
Apple Pay is the company’s effort to diversify into mobile payments and allows users to pay for goods by storing their credit card information within the new iOS devices and the forthcoming Apple Watch. It went live on Monday with the launch of iOS 8.1.
So far, it doesn’t seem the issue has spread to any other financial institution and with BofA on top of the refunds it doesn’t seem like too much cause for alarm.
Any widespread roll out of a brand new service like Apple Pay is probably going to experience one or two teething problems, so the company is unlikely to be too perturbed.
