Apple Patents User Customisable Multi-touch

Just as anticipated...

Is this the next evolutionary step for multi-touch?

Following its brilliant incorporation in the game-changing iPhone and iPod touch and, more recently, its implementation in the MacBook Air it looks like customisation is on the way.

Electronista has managed to grab snaps of a Apple patent filing which shows a multi-touch user control panel which offers the ability to add ‘simple’ (one or two finger) actions or ‘advanced’ (three, four or even full hand) gestures and motions.

These images clearly demonstrate that this is a more Mac-centric than iPhone/iPod inclined but its creation could still lead to the introduction of various options for owners of these devices in future firmware.

Even more interesting, Electronista says it found these patents were originally filed more than one year ago which makes it a) a rare miss from the press, but b) all the more likely to be commercially available in the near future than if this were a new application.

My input is that this looks just the sort of thing to appear once Apple rolls out multi-touch across the rest of the MacBook (and Mac?) ranges. So what you waiting for Apple? Out with them…!
