Is this an error or a 'secret' extra feature to be announced pre-launch?
Is there still more to spill on the iPod touch…?
Following last night’s big launch (perhaps the most accurately foretold in the company’s history) it looks like there might still be one major feature left to reveal.
If you take a mosey on over to Apple’s German site you’ll see here an official touch product shot that shows Bluetooth connectivity. It’s absent from the other shots so are we in for a treat or simply victims of a lazy Photoshop prototype?
Frustratingly, I actually had the touch in my hands last night after the main event (it feels sinfully nice) and, for the life of me, I can’t remember whether I saw the symbol or not (it could also have easily been disabled on these early samples).
Either way however it goes to show Apple has considered the idea and it would surely be a big success if it does come to fruition, bringing an even wider selection of 3rd party products with it too – and besides, the iPhone has it.
So is a little bonus coming our way prior to the 28 September launch? We’ll know in three weeks.
”’Update:”’ Another potential bonus is news that the touch will run exactly the same third party apps as the iPhone so features like email and Google maps (though still accessible through the Safari browser) could get their own dedicated widgets. Top banana.
”’Update 2:”’ Apple is denying the touch will feature Bluetooth connectivity, but don’t lose heart. It’s a fan of making massive U-turns at the minute…
”’Update 3:”’ Eagle-eyed reader Jonathan informs us another picture of the ‘Bluetooth touch’ can be seen half way down the company’s UK store product page here. He’s right (see below). If Apple isn’t including Bluetooth in the touch it is clearly happy to let this urban myth build…
Bluetooth touch shot – still there as of publishing
